Atlanta Falcons Biggest Draft Needs
By Deke Lloyd
2. Cornerback
The Falcons are down two cornerbacks’ after Robert Alford and Brian Poole are no longer with the team. This leaves Desmond Trufant and Isaiah Oliver as their two starting corners for the season. The position of cornerback is also deep in this draft, so it’s a possibility the Falcons could draft a cornerback very early in this draft.
Devin White, Greedy Williams, and Deandre Baker could all be on the board at the 14th pick. The Falcons will likely be more focused on the defensive line, but if one of these guys really impressed the Falcons, it’s not crazy to think Quinn would pull the trigger on one of the secondary guys early. I don’t think it would be the best move, but that’s why I’m not making the picks.
The NFL has turned into a league where having good corners isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. With offenses becoming more pass-friendly every season, the premium to have good cover corners is more and more.
The Falcons need corners the even compete this season. I don’t know if that will come in the first round, or in later round, but regardless of when the Falcons address the position, a cornerback will be added through the draft.
