Atlanta Falcons Potential First Round Pick: Dexter Lawrence
Defensive tackle is a major need for the Atlanta Falcons, despite drafting one last season. Traditionally the Atlanta Falcons have defended the run much better, when they have a larger defensive tackle that must be double teamed at all times. Dexter Lawrence may be just the guy to fill that role for Atlanta.
The Atlanta Falcons are expected to focus on the defensive and offensive lines in the upcoming NFL draft. Should the team take a defensive tackle in the draft, they must decide on rather to draft a gap shooting, quicker defensive tackle, or a bigger run defender who commands a double team. Atlanta is reportedly interested in Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver, a quicker defensive tackle in the mold of Aaron Donald. Atl All Day broke down Ed Oliver in this feature. After a spectacular Pro Day, Oliver may not be available when the Atlanta Falcons are on the clock. The Falcons would be wise to consider a run-stuffing, power defensive tackle like Dexter Lawrence.
Dexter Lawrence is a behemoth of a man, standing six-foot four and weighing 342 pounds. He is originally from Wake Forrest, North Carolina. Mr. Lawrence is known as the best high school football recruit to come out of the state of North Carolina. That’s impressive being that Georgia Bulldogs star and NFL All Pro Todd Gurley is from North Carolina. Dexter was phenomenal in high school racking up 28 sacks and forcing six fumbles in his prep career. He was recruited by almost every major college program, yet he choose to sign with the Clemson Tigers over schools such as Alabama, Florida, and Florida State.
