Atlanta Braves reliever Jonny Venters hit the Injured List on Monday in what is likely a chance to reset for the struggling reliever. Venters has been terrible in the early going and will have a chance to reset.

Among the early bullpen surprises for the Atlanta Braves has been Luke Jackson’s improvements and Jonny Venter’s inability to get hitters out. Venter’s only consistency was consistently giving up runs anytime manager Brian Snitker called him out of the bullpen.

Venters will now hit the injured list with a calf injury. It seems more likely Venters simply is taking time to reset after his very slow start.

Despite his struggles there is plenty of time for Venters to turn his season around. He deserves plenty of patience considering his ability and track record. For the Braves they biggest fear has to be another arm injury.

After dominant seasons with Atlanta Venters endured three arm surgeries before finally making it back with Tampa Bay last season. Atlanta added Venters in a mid-season trade and expected him to be a regular contributor from the bullpen this season.

They will still need him later this season, considering their lack of veteran arms and need for late inning lefty options.

Venters will likely only spend the minimal time on the injured list considering his reported injury isn’t expected to be serious.

The Braves will start their next series against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight in Atlanta looking to get back on track after a series split with the New York Mets.

They will need strong starting pitching considering their lack of bullpen depth. A position they could look to address if the struggles continue when Venters returns from injury.

Craig Kimbrel is still on the market and makes a lot of sense for his former club. More to come as the news on Venter’s recovery continues.
