Atlanta Braves: Dansby Swanson a Bright Spot on Struggling Braves Roster
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves are currently under .500 and have had a frustrating start to their season. One bright spot among the struggles has been shortstop Dansby Swanson who has taken a huge step forward.
Dansby Swanson is one of the Atlanta Braves best hitters through the first two months of the season. A fact that is shocking to many Braves fans who may have considered Swanson expendable after last season.
Swanson may only be hitting .263 but he has improved every area of his game. His at-bats are noticeably improved, working the count and rarely chases pitches out of the zone. Swanson constantly chased pitches out of the zone in years past struggling to find any consistency.
His power numbers have taken a huge leap as well as he has already had 14-extra base hits with 6-homers in the early going. He has driven in 25-runs and the more clutch the situation becomes the better of a hitter Dansby becomes.
Defensively Swanson has been impressive playing to a gold glove standard consistently making tough plays and finding outs on defense.
In many ways Swanson has been the most consistent of the Atlanta Braves young players helping keep the Braves in games the bullpen and pitching often has them falling out of.
For the Braves, there is little question now whether Swanson is their shortstop of the future. Two months into the season Dansby has answered any questions the Braves have about his ability. The only question now is it sustainable?
Dansby’s approach not only suggest sustainability but if anything his numbers could see a slight uptick. As long as his current approach continues his success should as well.
For the Braves they will need all the help they can get considering they are currently under .500 and struggling to keep themselves in games. More to come as the season continues.
