Atlanta Falcons Calvin Ridley is Set to Take a Step Forward in 2019

The Atlanta Falcons found the perfect receiver to pair with Julio Jones. Calvin Ridley had an explosive season and will continue to improve as he moves into his second season.

One of the few bright spots of watching the Atlanta Falcons last season was Calvin Ridley. Ridley finished his rookie season with 821-receiving yards and 10-touchdown grabs. Ridley had his rookie moments but overall impressed Matt Ryan and the Falcons.

The biggest takeaway from Ridley’s first season was his unreal route running ability. His ability to run a perfect route combined with his speed gives him the potential to be one of the most explosive players in the League.

Much of last season Ryan didn’t have time in the pocket. This off-season has been spent addressing that problem and giving Ryan more protection. He will have more time to throw the ball in 2019 and Ridley will benefit from it.

With an a full season under his belt Ridley is going to take a big step forward in 2019.  If healthy he will establish himself as one of the most explosive receivers in football.

It seems likely he will break the 1,000 yard mark for the first time as well considering his ability to run routes and break big plays. He will open up the field for Julio Jones and help to take the pressure off of Julio and running back Devonta Freeman.

Having a player like Ridley is the perfect compliment to Julio’s style of play. He gives the Falcons a deep threat that demands attention and will open up plays for Jones. If the defense instead opts to double Jones (as they should) Ridley will make plays.

Next season should be a step back to relevance for the Falcons behind veteran Matt Ryan and a stacked offensive roster. Ridley will be a huge key for an offense set to improve in 2019.
