Atlanta Falcons Shouldn’t Hesitate to Sign Former Buc Gerald McCoy
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons need to sign former Tampa Bay Buc Gerald McCoy to complete their off-season. McCoy would help the defensive depth immensely and give the Falcons an above average defense.
Gerald McCoy and Tampa Bay have parted ways, his time tormenting the Atlanta Falcons twice a year is likely over. Now is the time for the Falcons to add McCoy and complete what has been a positive off-season after a terrible 2018 season.
The Falcons defensive and offensive lines were their biggest question marks headed into the off-season. Both free agents and draft picks have been added to the offensive line giving it a complete new look headed into the new season.
For the defensive line, however, little has been added and is still a questionable spot for Atlanta. McCoy being released gives Atlanta the chance to completely change their defensive line.
A player like McCoy takes the Falcons from a questionable line to having what could be the best defensive tackle duo in the NFC.
McCoy is a run stopper and an above average pass rusher. He is yet to be paired with a player as good as Grady Jarrett during his peak. Jarrett is a great player who gives the Falcon’s defensive line a chance to be above average even without McCoy.
Adding in McCoy will give the Falcons a good defensive line with the chance to be great dependent on how Vic Beasley performs this season.
McCoy finished the last two seasons with 6.0 sacks and continually made his presence felt in opposing backfields. Adding him to the defensive roster would be a game changer for the defense and give the Falcons a much deeper team.
While he may not be the elite lineman he was a few seasons ago he still is an impact player that the Falcons need to add to their roster.
