Impact on Trade Target De’Andre Hunter

It’s clear that the Atlanta Hawks have the assets to trade up for the player they covet most, it’s just a matter of cost. But the question is, who does Travis Schlenk covet? There are also now rumors about the Atlanta Hawks having interest in Virginia combo forward De’Andre Hunter. Although Jarrett Culver is unlikely to fall to number eight, with so many teams picking above Atlanta needing point guards, there is a high possibility that De’Andre Hunter or Duke wing Cam Reddish are available at pick number eight. Hunter is the higher rated player on nearly every experts draft board, so it’s becoming increasingly likely that he will be unavailable when the Hawks first pick comes around. The Cavs are also thought to value Hunter and Reddish, though it is unclear on who they prefer. Hunter has been extremely quiet as far as leaked reports of workouts go. This has led many writers to speculate that he has already received a promise to be drafted by a lottery team. There is also unconfirmed speculation that the Hawks are the team that gave him the promise. Jeremy Woo of SI.com also mentioned the Atlanta Hawks in regards to Hunter in his mock draft 10.0:

"The two teams that have come up most frequently as having real interest in Hunter are Cleveland and Atlanta. Over the past week, it’s begun to look unlikely Hunter makes it to the Hawks’ first pick at No. 8, which is essentially his floor. The question is where the Hawks would have come up in order to get him, and also whether they’d prefer Jarrett Culver. Hunter is valued for his defensive acumen and relatively easy projectability amid an uncertain lottery class."

Prior to the Anthony Davis Trade Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders tweeted that the Cleveland Cavaliers would be willing to move down, contingent on Cam Reddish being available with their pick. The Hawks may or may not be still interested, depending on rather Culver is the guy they want and how much they value De’Andre Hunter over Cam Reddish who should be available at eight.
