Free agent options continue to shrink, as teams sign players at a record pace. A better option for the Atlanta Hawks, is to pick up the phone, call the Orlando Magic and inquire about big man Mo Bamba.

Now that center Dewayne Dedmon has relocated to Sacramento, the Atlanta Hawks have a need for depth at the center position. Outside of Alex Len who started 31 games for the Hawks, there is very little experienced center depth on the roster.

Omari Spellman is capable of playing center, yet he is still unproven, having played in just 46 games and starting 11. Miles Plumlee is in a suit more often than on the court, playing just 18 games last season. He certainly can’t be depended on.

Most importantly the Hawks have a long-term prospect at every position, besides center. Free agents are getting thin, with only three of the five big men the Atlanta Hawks should out pursue remaining. Searching the trade market, may be the best place for Atlanta to land a good long-term prospect in the pivot.

The Orlando Magic have resigned their all-star center Nikola Vucevic, to a four-year deal for 100 million dollars. That signing means that the 2018 number six pick Mo Bamba, who is also a true center, has his path to a starting spot blocked for the foreseeable future.

The Atlanta Hawks would be wise to see what it would take, to pry the center prospect away from Orlando. By the time Vucevic can opt out of his contract, Mo Bamba will be up for a new contact. Bamba can’t maximize his opportunities without a chance to start.
