Atlanta Falcons Counting on Defense to Bounce Back in 2019
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons are headed into the 2019 season hoping to bounce back after a disastrous 2018 season. The biggest factor will be if the Falcons defense can bounce back this season?
It was a painful season for the Atlanta Falcons and their fans. After back to back seasons of being a true contender Atlanta limped through 2018 unable to protect Matt Ryan or play defense on any level.
Atlanta was unable to stop opposing run games seemingly even when they loaded the box. The defense has a slightly new look this season, however. A defense that was ravaged by injuries is finally healthy and has added some new pieces.
Adrian Clayborn is back after spending a year with the Patriots and should help breathe some life back into an underwhelming Falcons pass rush.
Deion Jones and Keanu Neal will both finally be healthy. Their impact cannot be understated considering they are arguably Atlanta’s two best defensive players.
Jones in particular is indispensable to Atlanta considering his ability to lead the defense and use his speed to cover so much of the field.
Neal is an old school hard hitting safety who when healthy covers up so many mistakes for Atlanta on the back end. Keeping him healthy this season will be one of the biggest keys to Atlanta taking a step forward on defense.
Atlanta is going to improve this season after a dismal year. They have an improved offensive line and the ability defensively to be one of the quickest teams in football. They have corners who can play man coverage and linebackers to cover the pass.
A recipe for a successful defense in today’s game. The Falcons will improve this season and make their return to the playoffs. Helping lead the way will be an overlooked defense that will improve greatly in 2019.
