Atlanta Braves: Could Yasiel Puig Fit in Atlanta?
By Kit Anderson
With the injury to Nick Markakis the Atlanta Braves will test the trade market looking for an outfielder. They could find a potential match in the Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig.
Yasiel Puig may seem an odd fit for an Atlanta Braves team focused on youth and veteran leadership but Puig would perfectly complete the Braves offense. Atlanta needs a starting outfielder considering the injury to Nick Markakis and the fact Austin Riley is floundering at the Big League level.
Puig is currently hitting .255 with 22-homers on the year. He is having a solid season and is the right-handed bat Atlanta needs.
The one downside to this move is the fact that it would cost Atlanta and Puig has been known to start trouble on the field. He is a fiery player who will go toe-to-toe with anyone he believes is challenging him.
Puig would fit in well with the fun loving Braves roster who is nearing postseason relevance. Puig would be a smaller move that allows the Braves to use an outfield of Puig, Ender Inciarte, and Ronald Acuna Jr.
Inciarte has just gained a lot more value to Atlanta with their recent injuries and will look to cement his place as a starter.
Even once fully healthy Atlanta will have a great depth piece in Puig. A piece that the Dodgers had last season when they beat the Braves in the postseason.
Depth is the biggest issue for Atlanta and acquiring Puig would give them needed depth and a starting outfielder in the short term. The Reds are willing to trade Puig and likely will offload the outfielder for a minor return.
It is a move Atlanta should at least explore as they look to add relief pitching, a starter, and an outfielder in the next 24-hours. More to come as the trade deadline nears.
