Atlanta Braves Need Mike Foltynewicz to be True World Series Contenders
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves need Mike Foltynewicz to bounce back this season if they hope to be true World Series contenders. Mike has shown improvement at Triple-A and will now try to transition his success back to the next level.
Mike Foltynewicz was the Atlanta Braves ace and unquestioned best pitcher during their surprise 2018 season. Now the Braves need Folty to bounce back and once again find top form if they want to be true World Series contenders.
After his breakout season Mike entered the season expecting to be at the top of the Atlanta rotation. Instead an early injury derailed the start of his season and he was never the same after his early struggles.
Struggling badly enough to result in him being sent down to Triple-A. Since there Mike has turned his season around and done enough to earn another chance at a roster spot.
The Braves believe in him enough to let Kevin Gausman go and give Folty his spot in the rotation. Now Mike has the tough task of getting out of his own head and letting his immense talent do its job.
Atlanta is counting on Folty to do just that. Without him at his best the Braves have very little shot of being true World Series contenders. They simply lack the needed rotation depth to match up with the Dodgers in the postseason.
If Mike were able to replicate what he did last year for the team that would change drastically. Atlanta would suddenly have three legitimate top of the rotation arms they could mix and match against any postseason team.
Foltynewicz is arguably the key for Atlanta to be a true postseason contender. The team needs Folty to return to the pitcher he was in 2018. If not they could be in trouble come postseason time.
