The Atlanta Falcons made a tough decision to move on from veteran kicker Matt Bryant. Leaving a hole on their roster at kicker, leading the Falcons to bring in Blair Walsh for at least one game in a Falcon’s uniform.

The Atlanta Falcons have signed Blair Walsh for their final pre-season game. He will be competing with Giorgio Tavecchio who was supposed to take over from veteran Matt Bryant. Cutting Bryant before they had to was a poor move for Atlanta with the issues many teams have had in the kicking game.

They were setting themselves up for the struggles they are now facing. Tavecchio seems unable to make a kick even in the low-pressure pre-season. This has left the Falcons feeling very uneasy and why they brought in Blair Walsh.

With only one preseason game remaining it would seem Walsh would have to blow Atlanta away to win the spot.  Though in fairness with the way Tavecchio has looked perhaps all he would have to do is make a couple of kicks.

Blair spent his college career with the Georgia Bulldogs and would no doubt be very popular in Atlanta if he were to make the roster. He spent the majority of his career with the Vikings where he was a great kicker.

But as often is the case for kickers demons seemed to enter his head ending with him missing two clutch kicks one with the Vikings and one with his last team the Seahawks.

Still, Walsh has a lot more experience and has proven himself a lot more than the inexperienced Tavecchio.  He should be given every chance to win the starting job in the next week and a half. Regardless of who wins the job, Atlanta is going to miss the consistency that Matt Bryant brought to the team during his time in Atlanta.
