The Atlanta Falcons are getting set for game one and their star receiver Julio Jones still doesn’t have a new contract. The fact they are yet to pay Jones is leading some to wonder if he will play in week one.

Whether or not Julio Jones will suit up for the Atlanta Falcons in week one is unknown. What we do know, however, is the fact the Falcons still haven’t delivered on their promise to give Julio a new contract.

Last season Julio held out at the start of the new football year in hopes of getting a new contract. Atlanta informed him that they would not negotiate until the end of the season. In some ways this is understandable, but you have to consider things from Julio’s perspective.

He has a very limited chance to get paid during his prime and after playing on his rookie contract. He must find a way to make the most he can while his presence on the Falcons is benefitted from.

Still being the player that Julio is he showed up and played last season without making any waves or demands. The time has come for the Falcons to deliver and give Julio a new contract and they are yet to deliver.

Despite promises from the owner and the fact Julio risked injury and not getting paid at all while the market surpassed his old deal he still hasn’t gotten the new deal he deserves. With three days until the Falcon’s first game of the season, there is some concern Julio will hold out until a new deal is done.

If he decides to take this route fans shouldn’t blame the star receiver at all considering what he has done for their team and the promises that were made to the star.  There is still hope that Atlanta can get a last-minute deal done before the season was to start.  If not, Julio would be wise to hold out until Atlanta makes the best receiver in football the highest paid as he deserves.
