The Atlanta Falcons are set to play their first game of the season on Sunday against the Vikings.  Running back Devonta Freeman is finally healthy and will begin what many hope is a comeback season for the running back.

When they have been at their best the Atlanta Falcons have had the ability to run the ball. An obvious fact to even the most casual Falcon’s fan. Last season Atlanta’s inability to run the ball was a part of the reason for their huge collapse.

Star running back Devonta Freeman was injured in game one and only appeared in one more game the rest of the season. He finished the year with 68-rushing yards a year after 865-yards and 7-rushing touchdowns.

The two seasons before that Freeman had rushed for more than 1,000-yards and had 11-rushing touchdowns in both 2015 and 2016.

Three years of being a star running back in this League and after one injury plagued season many have seemingly written Freeman off. While part of this has to do with the position he plays, Freeman is still only 27-years old and not yet past his prime.

This season is going to be a bounce-back year for Freeman. With a re-worked offensive line and a lethal passing attack Freeman is going to get back to the player he was in 2016 and 2017.

Proving he is still one of the top running backs in this League and helping the Falcons back to the playoffs.  Freeman doesn’t have to put up eye popping numbers, he simply has to be healthy and consistent giving Atlanta balance on offense.

If he can remain healthy he will do just that in what will be a season reminding the NFL just how good he can be.  The Falcons will kick off their season Sunday on the road against the Vikings at 1:00 PM EST on FOX.
