Atlanta Falcons: Should Atlanta Sign Antonio Brown?
By Kit Anderson
Antonio Brown is now a free agent after being released by the Oakland Raiders. The Atlanta Falcons have a very talented core of receivers but should show some interest in the top receiver.
The Atlanta Falcons have the best receiver in the League in Julio Jones. Ask anyone around the League and the first two names you will hear are Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. Jones was just locked up on a long-term deal by the Falcons, while Brown was released from the Raiders.
Brown has had a troubled off-season that led to his release. The Raiders released Brown before he ever played a down for the team.
Considering they traded two late-round draft picks for one of the top receivers football has see tells you how much Brown’s value has plummeted. Antonio Brown has proven time and time again he isn’t about football or the team he is about Antonio Brown.
However, when you have Brown’s level of talent you have to consider whether these facts outweigh the talent he brings.
For the Falcons Brown should only be an option if he is willing to come in on a prove-it one year deal. Something he is likely to have to consider if he wants a job in the NFL.
Despite his talent teams are not going to want to give the receiver many guaranteed dollars. For Atlanta, he would be worth the risk if the deal allowed them to cut bait as the Raiders did when it became too much of a problem.
Atlanta has a strong culture and a great receiver’s room. Pairing Antonio Brown with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley would be amazing to watch. It would easily make Matt Ryan an MVP favorite giving him an open target on seemingly every play.
That alone has to make the Falcons at least think about offering Brown a low-risk-high-reward deal.
However, it seems more likely Brown would be unwilling to go to Atlanta to pair with Julio Jones. A player who unlike Brown puts others first. A trait Brown is going to have to learn once again if he wants to be remembered as a football great and not a player who wrecks locker rooms.
