Atlanta Hawks Set For First Pre-Season Game
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Hawks will tip off the pre-season tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans officially starting their new season. It will be a season of high expectations for a talented young Hawks team.
Atlanta Hawks basketball is finally back with Atlanta starting the pre-season in tonight’s game against the pelicans. Atlanta knows what they have now in Trae Young and John Collins. The pre-season will be all about their rookies.
Who starts and how do their new pieces fit? These are questions that Atlanta will have an answer for before the season starts. It will be a season of high expectations for Atlanta. To be clear, these expectations are showing improvement and being a playoff caliber team.
Atlanta has the talent to compete in a weak Eastern conference. However, they lack the depth of lineup to take on the top teams in the League. They lack the star power to take down the Bucks or the star studded 76er’s.
This season isn’t about winning it all, it is about competing and taking the next step forward. Learning not only to compete in games but to finish and win. This roster at their best is a 7th or 8th seed and is a playoff team.
John Collins and Trae Young are a dynamic duo that is going to win Atlanta a lot of games. Add in talented rookies, veteran free agents, and the leadership of Vince Carter and this team is set to take a step forward this season.
Atlanta and New Orleans will tip-off tonight at 7:30EST with the game being aired on NBATV. Atlanta fans will get a chance to get their first look at their pair of rookie first rounders and Pelican’s first rounder Zion Williamson. The Atlanta starters are unlikely to play long in game one, as they work back into basketball shape. This will give Atlanta time to evaluate their depth pieces as they make lineup decisions.
