The NFL Trade Deadline came and went yesterday with a whimper. After shipping Mo Sanu off to New England, the Atlanta Falcons stood pat, choosing to finish the season with the team intact.

With the season from hell presently taking place in Atlanta, it was thought the Atlanta Falcons would try to sell off as many assets as possible to stockpile some draft picks. When Mo Sanu was moved last week, it was the assumption that Sanu’s trade would be the opening of the floodgates. Instead, the Falcons made no more trades, deciding to stick with the team through the rest of the season.

Vic Beasley, who had a team option, for 12 million, dollars that the Falcons decided to pick up because Dan Quinn believed he was the guy to fix Beasley, was the name that was being circulated the most in regards to trade. After another disappointing season, at least halfway through, Beasley wasn’t a high priority for teams or they weren’t willing to take the chance on an over-hyped pass rusher. Now, the Falcons will get to watch Vic Beasley finish out his Atlanta tenure in these last eight games, being a complete disappointment and letdown from the season he led the NFL in sacks.

A few other names were being tossed around that stayed with the team. Desmond Trufant, Devonta Freeman, Austin Hooper all remain with the team following the trade deadline. In a season that has been nothing but disappointment, the Falcons have stuck with an aging, underachieving team through the rest of the season.

The Falcons did avoid any trades to close on the deadline, however, there was a roster move yesterday. Longtime kicker, Matt Bryant, was cut by the team after proving he does age. The Falcons signed Georgia Southern alum, Younghoe Koo. This marks the second time the Falcons have cut Bryant this season. Bryant was an outstanding kicker in his time with the Falcons, and it’s sad to see it end this way.

Yet, all things must come to an end, like the NFL trade deadline, and unlike the Falcons neverending season from hell, so to must Matt Bryant walk away from the NFL. This is the Falcons team that is here to stay. Dan Quinn, Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and the rest are here for the long run. Let’s hope they can find their way at some point.
