Atlanta Hawks: Need a Healthy Trae Young to Contend

The Atlanta Hawks need their star point guard Trae Young, that fact is very obvious to even a casual Hawks fan. What is surprising is just how bad the team is when their young star isn’t on the floor.

Trae Young went down early this season and the Atlanta Hawks didn’t win another game until his return last night against the Spurs.

What we saw during that losing streak was a complete inability to score with any consistency. Without Trae Young, the Hawks went from a playoff caliber team to the doormat of the East.

While it is only fair to note that they were playing a hot Miami Heat team for two of those losses the point stands nonetheless.

This team will only be able to go as far as Trae Young can take them. If there was any doubt about that fact this recent losing streak should solidify just how important he is to this roster.

With John Collins suspended for 25-games the Hawks will need to lean on Young even more so.  Without Collins this team can survive, without Young, this team cannot even contend much less win games.

Trae was rusty in his return to the Hawks lineup but turned it on late to help the Hawks break the losing streak and beat a solid Spurs team.

Though early it seems definitive that with Trae Young in their lineup the Hawks will have a chance every night regardless of the opponent.

He is that special of a player, special enough to carry a less than impressive Hawks roster to the playoffs. Without him this roster is in the cellar in a weak Eastern Conference.

Atlanta will look to start a win streak tonight against the Chicago Bulls. More to come as the Atlanta Hawks season continues.
