Atlanta Hawks: Trae Young Needs More Help in Atlanta
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Indiana Pacers 105-104 in overtime despite a herculean effort from Trae Young. Through the first 19-games this season one thing has been clear, Young needs more help.
Watching this young Atlanta Hawks team the first four games versus the last 15 their youth has become very obvious. They don’t know how to win yet or keep their foot on the pedal when they need to distance themselves.
This team is so very limited offensively that Trae Young shooting half-court shots or driving to the basket with all eyes on him is their best offense. Young scored 49-points last night absolutely terrorizing the Pacers.
However, it wasn’t enough considering there was literally no other offensive threat for the Hawks. Young cannot carry this roster to wins despite his scoring abilities.
If Atlanta hopes to turn their season around they must find a way to give their young point guard more help offensively. If the rest of the Hawks continue at their current pace it is going to be a very long season for Trae Young.
Atlanta is going to have to make a decision, how many miles do they want to put on their young point guard? In meaningless games it seems like a bad idea to allow Young to play so many minutes.
While Young won’t be a fan of the move Atlanta needs to limit his minutes to protect his long term health. Until the Hawks find more offensive help there is little reason to put so many miles on their franchise player.
The Hawks are seemingly farther from contention then many fans expected coming into the season.
Their early struggles have not been outweighed by Trae Young’s impressive scoring ability despite his best efforts. This team is in for another long season a fact you can blame everyone for except Trae Young.
