The Atlanta Hawks are 6-21 on the season despite herculean efforts from their star point guard Trae Young. The team is obviously missing another scorer, a scorer like Cleveland’s Kevin Love.

Kevin Love on the Atlanta Hawks roster at first glance would be a little bit head-scratching. Atlanta doesn’t have a lot of talent but what they do have is a lot of cap space. With next year’s very thin free-agent class Atlanta is going to have to get creative to improve.

Kevin Love paired with Trae Young would be a dream pairing for a point guard who simply has no other option than himself.  In any close game, Young is going to be double and at times even triple-teamed.

Their opponents know that there isn’t anyone else on the floor who can make a clutch shot. Which brings us to Kevin Love, we have seen Love make a lot of clutch shots during his years playing with LeBron James.

Despite his numbers being down this season he is still a valued commodity and is likely to be moved before the trade deadline. The Hawks should jump on the opportunity acquire a star to play alongside Trae.

Love can play at the four or the five allowing John Collins to stay on the court in a fast small-ball lineup. A lineup that would give Young a chance to lead this team to victories not simply exhaust himself to keep games close.

Love has three years and over $90-million left on his contract, money Atlanta can take on to add another shooter and scoring threat. The idea admittedly is an unconventional one but Atlanta is going to have to get creative to improve and at 6-21 all options should be on the table.

Kevin Love and Trae Young is a pick-and-roll nightmare for any opponent with either player capable of knocking down a three or driving for a layup. This combined with Love’s playoff experience and rebounding ability should make Atlanta strongly consider trading for Kevin Love.
