The Atlanta Braves have officially lost out on Josh Donaldson after he signed with the Twins. Now they must find a bat for the middle of their order in free agency or via trade.

The Atlanta Braves now have limited options after trying to wait out Josh Donaldson a signing you can read more about here.

With Donaldson off the board Atlanta must find another bat to put in the middle of their order. Of the options left on the board Marcell Ozuna is the easier answer for Atlanta. If Atlanta was willing to give up the prospects it would take I would easily take Nolan Arenado’s bat over Ozuna.

However, Atlanta would likely have to give up prospects and Major League talent something they are going to be unwilling to do. With that in mind, Ozuna is their best option and it is time the club made a move and signed Ozuna.

He is coming off of one of his worse seasons hitting .243 though his power numbers stayed level. He is a career .273 hitter and likely would return to that production in a very talented Braves lineup.

Ozuna is not as talented of a hitter as Josh Donaldson but he can replace most of his production and make the Braves a postseason worthy lineup. There should be some concern, however, that Atlanta’s rotation and lineup have both gotten weaker.

Ozuna’s bat improves Atlanta but his defense is a weakness at this point in his career. He would be put into left field and likely platooned with Nick Markakis. Markakis needs to be platooned this season not counted on to start every game as he was the last few seasons.

It will keep him rested and hopefully more productive at the end of the season, something that Ozuna can help with. No question it is time for the Braves to sign Marcell Ozuna.
