The Atlanta Hawks were riding high after beating the San Antonio Spurs. The Hawks had little time to rest, and it showed, with a game the next day with the Detriot Pistons.

Yesterday, I talked about the momentum the Atlanta Hawks had a chance to build on after their huge road win against the San Antonio Spurs. With the Detriot Pistons coming to Atlanta the next day, it would be a good test for this young Hawks team to build on the positivity from San Antonio. Unfortunately, the young Hawks showed their inexperience and tired legs in the second half of their back-to-back.

The Hawks were outmatched from the very start of this game. The Pistons jumped on top of the Hawks and never let up. Led by Derrick Rose, the Pistons did a great job of capitalizing on a tired team that had to travel the night before. It was going to be a tough test for the Hawks, regardless of the high the team was on from the night before, but the Hawks were completely outplayed and were out of the game early.

The Hawks came out with the same starting five, Trae Young, Kevin Hueter, Cam Reddish, De’Andre Hunter, and John Collins, from the Spurs game. After the tremendous effort the night before, the fatigue was the most obvious in these five players. Trae Young finished with 16 points. Huerter, who has been playing his best basketball of the season, finished with 2 points. De’Andre Hunter and John Collins were the only bright spots from the starting five, finishing the game with 19 and 20 points.

Jeff Teague and Treveon Graham both made their debuts last night since joining the Hawks in the trade that sent Allen Crabbe to Minnesota. Graham finished the game with 5 points, playing 13 minutes. Teague was the bright spot off the bench, finishing 15 points and 7 assists. In the future, Teague can be a spark for the Hawks coming off the bench, an element the Hawks have been without all season.

The Hawks will have little time before the next game. The Hawks will return to action for an afternoon MLK Day game with the Toronto Raptors. At least the Hawks will get to rest for a day before having to take the court against one of the Eastern Conference powers.

The Hawks will take the court against the Raptors at 2:30 P.M. in Atlanta.
