Atlanta Hawks Trae Young Explodes in Win Over 76er’s
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Hawks beat the Philadelphia 76ers last night 127-117 in a night that both showed the Hawk’s potential and what is wrong with this team. The Hawk’s young point guard was at the center of an impressive Hawk’s win.
Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks are having two very different seasons, an odd statement considering the fact that Young is the Hawk’s franchise player. The Hawks have been an utter disappointment while Young has exploded this season.
Last night’s win was a rarity for a Hawk’s roster sitting in the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Trae Young score 39-points with 18-assists, that is the type of production Young is having to find if the Hawks want a chance of winning on any given night.
Young simply doesn’t have enough help on the offensive end or on the other end of the floor to help his shortcomings defensively. Trae is continuing to put up great numbers but those numbers aren’t translating into wins.
The biggest issue is the lack of defensive help around Young. Trae is an offensive wizard who is going to create open shots for his teammates. Ideally he needs to be surrounded by three-and-D players with a rim protector.
While the game from Young was impressive last night the Hawks need to put a team together that doesn’t rely on Trae being Superman to win a game.
Last night’s win was fun to watch there was also some frustration when you look at what the Hawks are capable of being. They have fallen well below expectations and are sitting at 23-games under .500, hardly a step forward.
With the trade deadline upcoming Atlanta needs to focus on improving and building a team around Trae for the future. If not, Young could tire of the rebuilding process and as we have seen many NBA stars do decide to go elsewhere.
