If the reports are true and the trade goes through the Atlanta Hawks have acquired Rockets center Clint Capela in a four team blockbuster of a trade. The trade gives Atlanta the rim protector they so desperately needed.

The Atlanta Hawks have made the first strike before the NBA trade deadline a fact that will surprise a lot of fans.   The Hawks weren’t expected to make many moves sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and already looking towards next season.

This is a deal that without a doubt benefits the Atlanta Hawks. They are now a better defensive team and more complete on the offensive end.

It would not be at all surprising to see this move sparking a late season winning streak. Capela is a defender and a rebounder who is averaging almost 14-points per game.

The biggest issue for him in Houston was the lack of shots with James Harden leading that offense. While Trae Young may take a lot of shots he is a passer first and foremost and is going to give Capela a lot of easy buckets.

It will allow Collins to play just power forward as well the position he is most naturally gifted at. He lacks the defensive ability or size to take on the League’s best centers.

This is a deal that makes Atlanta a contender next season. With Capela and the right perimeter defenders around Trae this team is suddenly a threat in the East.

The one problem for Atlanta is still their lack of success this season even before adding Capela, on paper they should be better than the bottom of the League. If success doesn’t come after this move there is certainly reason to wonder if coaching changes are needed for Atlanta. More to come as the deadline nears.
