Atlanta Falcons Championship Window is Closing Quickly
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons championship window just might be nearing its end. After the Super Bowl debacle and two underachieving seasons, Atlanta has an aging quarterback and receiver. It is fair to wonder how much they have left?
The Atlanta Falcons are coming off of what was a terrible season, forget the great finish. This team should have made the playoffs and instead were sitting at home yet again as the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl.
The Falcons seemingly are only talked about for their unbelievable loss in the Super Bowl when they were leading Tom Brady and the Patriots by a score that is now infamous.
It is fair to wonder if the Falcons championship window is closing if not already closed. They are led by 34-year old quarterback Matt Ryan and 30-year old Julio Jones.
Not all quarterbacks are going to age as well as future Hall of Famers Tom Brady or Drew Brees. At thirty-four it is fair to question if Matt Ryan’s best seasons aren’t already behind him. Best case scenario Atlanta likely has two-three seasons left of the Ryan era to win it all.
Worst case is Ryan continues to struggle as he did early last season and Atlanta is going to have to look to the future and a rebuild.
Regardless there is no questioning that Atlanta’s chance to win a championship under Matt Ryan is coming to its end. With this in mind, the off-season should be about going all-in on a push to catch the NFC’s top teams and win what has been an elusive championship for the Falcons.
There are plenty of veteran options on the free-agent market to improve both the offense and the defense. It is time for Atlanta to wake up and realize the position they are in. If not they will continue to live in the infamy of losing a 28-3 lead.
