3. Keeping The Faith With Brian Snitker

Brian Snitker got an extension along with AA yesterday to keep him around until the 2021 season. It was the second extension Snitker has been granted since taking over as the Braves interim manager when Fredi Gonzalez was fired in 2016. The next season, Snitker would be named the full-time manager. It wasn’t until the next season when Snitker would get some security, landing a two-year extension at the end of the 2017 season.

After the 2017 season, the Braves were thought to be at the end of the rebuild. Fans and pundits alike assumed it would take the Braves one more season to get all of the young talents they’ve complied to gel together into a winning team. At the time, it was thought that AA might want to pick his own guy to take over as manager to go into the new era of Braves baseball. Instead, Anthopoulos awarded Snitker with his confidence and a two-year extension that would keep him with the Braves.

AA didn’t have to wait long for that decision to pay off. The next season, 2018, the Atlanta Braves won the NL East for the first time since 2013. In the process, Snitker would be named Manager of The Year for his work with the young Braves team. The gamble of keeping Snitker paid off in a big way for AA. And all because he gave Snitker a chance.
