3. Is Sean Newcomb Finally Going to Capitalize on His Potential

Sean Newcomb is going to get another shot to rejoin the Braves rotation. A shot he deserves after his great work out of the Braves bullpen during the 2019 season. However, there should be a cause for concern if he falters with his control during Spring Training.

Newcomb has the stuff to be a top of the rotation arm, a fact many have been pointing out over the last three years.  Despite that fact, Newcomb’s struggles with control have derailed his stints in the rotation.

Could this season be the year he finally puts it all together? While Spring stats are generally meaningless watching Newcomb’s control and how prepared he is coming into the season will be an indication of whether or not he is finally ready to handle a spot in the Atlanta rotation.   With two spots up for grabs due to Cole Hamel’s injury, Newcomb would have to struggle greatly not to receive an opportunity until Hamels is healthy.
