The Atlanta Falcons made their first notable move of the off-season re-signing kicker Younghoe Koo. Koo was a solid addition for Atlanta after Matt Bryant’s struggles.

Matt Bryant wasn’t himself last season despite high expectations from the Atlanta Falcons and their fans. The once reliable kicker struggled and appeared to show his age.   The Falcons signed Younghoe Koo after moving on from Bryant and Koo stabilized the position making 23 of his 26 attempted field goals on the season.

Koo is a rarity in the fact he is an athlete at the kicker position he is fun to watch and brings a flair to a normally boring position.

While it is hard to move on from Bryant this is the right move for a franchise who needs to focus on the details.

Koo signed a one-year deal though the terms have not yet been announced. It is doubtful the deal will put any strain on the Falcon’s cap considering Koo’s limited playing time.

This is a solid move for Atlanta who has rarely shown the ability to make the right moves in free agency. With the majority of their impact players coming through the draft.

If Atlanta wants to return to the postseason they are going to have to continue to make smart moves during free agency and add depth to a team that when healthy has the ability to be a Super Bowl contender.

Another interesting note on Koo is the fact he seemingly has mastered the onside kick, a play that for the most part disappeared in football. That is a huge asset for a team in Atlanta that will likely be in a lot of close games next season with their schedule being ranked the 5th strongest in the NFL.   More to come as the Falcon’s off-season continues to get underway.
