The Atlanta Hawks were back in action on Monday. Coming off two wins in a row, the Hawks had a stout test to keep the streak alive against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Coming into Monday’s game with the 76ers, the Atlanta Hawks were on a high. The team was on a two-game winning streak, tied for the longest of the season, after beating the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat last week. The Hawks had only strung two wins together twice this season, once at the start of the season beating the Detriot Pistons and Orlando Magic. The second time came in the middle of January when the team beat the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs. The Hawks were looking to extend their winning streak to 3 games on Monday.

On the other side, the 76ers were coming into Monday’s game after getting handed a 21-point loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. The 76ers dealt with more than just an embarrassing loss to one of their Eastern Conference rivals. Ben Simmons injured his back in Saturday’s game to that make the young superstar unavailable for Monday’s game with the Hawks.

Despite not having Simmons for the game, the 76ers still boasted a lineup with Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, and Josh Richardson. Joel Embiid particularly gave the Hawks all kinds of trouble on Monday night. Embiid would go on to dominate the Hawks while carrying his team to a win with a heroic 4th quarter performance.

Going into the fourth quarter, the Sixers held a slim 92-91 lead. This is when Joel Embiid took the game over. Embiid would go on to score 22 of his career-high 49 points in the fourth quarter. Embiid finished the night with 49 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists. Embiid was incredibly efficient, too, shooting 17/24 from the field and 14/15 from the free-throw line. The Hawks had no answer for Embiid on Monday night.

The Hawks got good performances from Trae Young who had 28 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds, John Collins had 21 points and 9 rebounds. De’Andre Hunter had 22 points and 7 rebounds.

The Hawks will return home for their next game with the Orlando Magic. That game will tipoff at 7:30 on Wednesday.
