The Atlanta Falcons have no shortage of stories as training camp begins at the end of this week and the 2026 season finally gets underway. It is fair to look at the current roster and consider training camp battles as well as overlooked pieces. Players who have a chance to step into an obvious void and start a level of momentum that will continue to roll into Week 1.
With this mindset, let's look at five players getting ready to take advantage of training camp and start to win over a fanbase badly in need of a season to put its arms around. Starting with a quarterback who has no shortage of concerns but will benefit from one clear advantage.
1. Tua Tagovailoa
Michael Penix Jr. is at a decided disadvantage here when you consider the injury question marks. Furthering the advantage is the fact that Tagovailoa is an incredibly experienced starter and adult in the room who is going to come in and stabilize the position throughout training camp and the preseason. It simply cannot be underrated the lack of ability and experience the Falcons have been leaning on in recent years.
Tagovailoa is going to take advantage of this and roll through training camp, building momentum and grabbing control of the position. While injury concerns remain, there is zero question that Tagovailoa has the inside track.
2. Zachariah Branch
The door has rarely been this wide open in Atlanta for a rookie to step in and take a meaningful role. After Drake London, the Falcons lack anything but question marks at the position. Branch is a speed option that has an incredible ability to find open space. This is going to pop in training camp and make it undeniable that the talented rookie deserves a spot in the starting lineup in Week 1.
Not only is Branch going to earn a starting role, but his speed and ability to find space will earn the trust of his offensive coordinator and quarterback. Branch is a Georgia product and already has the attention of a large portion of the fanbase. No question, momentum for Branch is already taking off, and training camp will be an undeniable launchpad.
3. Avieon Terrell
The younger Terrell has been put in a position to claim a starting role as Mike Hughes has struggled in recent seasons. Add in the story of having two brothers starting at corner defensively, and there is zero question that the defender is set up to begin rolling in training camp and go into Week 1 with an obvious level of excitement surrounding his potential.
Terrell being undersized is the only concern with the talented corner attacking the ball and consistently putting himself in a position to win. These traits will be obvious in training camp and force the Falcons to make a clear choice.
