The playoffs made it clear that if there is one thing the Atlanta Hawks are lacking, it is a star capable of putting their head down and getting a bucket when the team needs it most. While Jalen Johnson is supremely talented and there is no shortage of great pieces, the roster needs a star presence capable of helping push the franchise on a Finals run.

With this in mind, let's look at the top three potential fits hitting the market this offseason. Players who would upgrade what is currently built and step in ready to help, starting with a player who is set to hit free agency and would be a dream target, however unlikely a signing might be.

1. LeBron James

Even at this late stage of his career, the superstar can get a bucket when you need it most and would fill the perfect void for the Hawks. If there was one obvious critique of Atlanta in the playoffs, it was the lack of a clear creator or bucket getter when you needed someone to attack. The team mentality that rules the roster is great, but a liability at times, and James would both make this better and provide a clear solution to the downsides of this.

With that said, it is incredibly unlikely that James is going to consider coming to Atlanta. The Hawks are a young team with pieces that James isn't likely to want to join, with leaving Los Angeles requiring either established relationships or a clear upgrade at competing for a title. While you could argue the Hawks are the latter of these two, it remains an incredibly unlikely signing that Atlanta should still perform due diligence on.

2. Austin Reaves

LeBron's current teammate is a restricted free agent, and the Lakers' priority when it comes to re-signings. This is understandable with Reaves having an intensity and fearless nature that makes the guard fun to watch on a team that often needed a spark. Reaves would answer all of the same questions and give the Hawks a player that fits perfectly into their young core while improving their shooting.

The issue with the fit is yet again the fact that Reaves is unlikely to leave Los Angeles, with the Lakers working to extend the guard and able to match any contract offered. Still, it is worth the Hawks making the attempt, understanding the value of the potential fit and the immense talent of Reaves.

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo

When Giannis is healthy, the forward is in the conversation as the league's best player and is already a proven champion. While there are clear shooting concerns for the Hawks if they were to make this potential trade, it would be one that made the franchise a clear threat to the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics. The Hawks were already the only team in the league to beat the defending champs more than once in a playoff series.

Antetkounmpo instantly puts the Hawks in the conversation as Eastern Conference champs and makes the franchise relevant in a way they haven't been since the surprise playoff run all the way back in 2021.
