Opening Day didn't go as planned for Atlanta, with the team falling 7-4 in the season's first action. While it was a frustrating start to the year, it is easy to defend when you consider the difference in rosters. Atlanta is missing Sean Murphy, Spencer Strider, and Ronald Acuna Jr. to start the season. Their bullpen is expected to get deeper as well as the team has brought in veteran additions that are still getting ready for the season.

With this in mind, Atlanta's slow start to the season isn't a huge concern with the talent of San Diego and the obvious upgrades waiting down the road. These injuries gave a handful of unexpected Braves a shot at making the Opening Day roster, many who won't factor into Atlanta's long-term plans. Including a veteran catcher who could already be on his way out.

1. Chadwick Tromp

Tromp is fighting an uphill battle not only to remain with the team moving forward but also in the first weeks of the season. Not only will Sean Murphy soon return but the Braves have added veteran catcher James McCann as well. With Murphy, it is no contest with the veteran being the clear starter and a building block for Atlanta moving forward.

Where things get complicated is how the team will manage young catcher Drake Baldwin. If the team believes the prospect isn't ready to make the leap long-term there is hope Tromp can hold off McCann for a roster spot.

However, there is no denying that this was Tromp's final Opening Day as a member of Atlanta's active roster. Next season is going to be Murphy and Baldwin giving the Braves one of the most exciting catching tandems in the league. Tromp can't reasonably do anything to change this.

The veteran catcher has had a handful of nice moments with the Braves but is likely at the end of the road with the franchise.
