2. Justin Simmons, S
Safety Justin Simmons was another veteran player the Falcons added this offseason. Before landing in Atlanta, Simmons was a productive player over the top with the Denver Broncos for eight seasons (2016-2023). He gave that defense a ball-hawking playmaker in the middle of the field, but that didn't translate in Atlanta.
Simmons signed a one-year, $8 million contract in August. Atlanta hoped the pairing of Jessie Bates and Simmons would give opposing teams fits.
In 16 games, the Boston College star finished with 62 total tackles, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions. According to PFF, Simmons had a 59.9 overall grade (113th among 170 eligible safeties), 53.8 run-defense grade (148th among 170 eligible safeties), and a 60.8 coverage grade (86th among 170 eligible safeties).
In addition, he had a 105.1 passer rating allowed with 12.6 yards allowed per reception. The Falcons won't be inclined to bring back a 31-year-old defender who didn't play well in their scheme in 2024.
3. Rondale Moore, WR
The Falcons offense has a nice group of playmakers. Drake London and Darnell Mooney are the top two receivers in that room. London led the team in receiving yards (1,271) and Mooney racked up 992 receiving yards.
This unit also has Bijan Robinson who impacts the game on the ground and through the air.
The Falcons were hoping Rondale Moore would have been in this equation as well. Last March, they traded quarterback Desmond Ridder in exchange for Moore.
Unfortunately, he didn't step on the field for the Falcons. Moore suffered a season-ending knee injury when he went down non-contact in a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins.
That came at the worst time, as Moore was heading into the final year of his rookie contract. The Purdue never recorded more than 435 receiving yards in a season.
He was known for his speed and agility to be used as a gadget guy but hasn't been able to translate those skills to the field consistently.
The 24-year-old is now coming off a major injury and the Falcons could look elsewhere to find another weapon in the receiver room.
