4. Lorenzo Carter, LB

Linebacker Lorenzo Carter has been with the Falcons for the past three seasons. Carter is listed at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds, and can set the edge.

The Georgia product was supposed to be an athletic pass-rusher for the Falcons, but he was anything but that.

He was a huge disappointment for this team, logging 32 total tackles, two TFLs, and zero sacks in 2024. The 29-year-old only managed to register seven total pressures and three QB hits.

According to PFF, Carter had a 43 overall grade (194th among 211 eligible defenders), a 47.3 pass-rush grade (203rd among 211 eligible defenders), and a 53.6 pass-rush grade (160th among 211 eligible defenders).

Carter was a big-time dud and the Falcons won't be bringing back. Why would you re-sign a player coming off the worst season of his career?

They can find better production through the draft or free agency.

5. Richie Grant, S

Safety Richie Grant was a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by Atlanta. Grant was a top-40 pick due to his ability to be an active player around the ball and be helpful in the run game.

From 2022-2023, Grant started 32 games and found a way to be effective. He totaled 100-plus tackles in both seasons but his coverage ability was a massive letdown (42.4 coverage grade per PFF in 2023).

This season, he was kicked to the bench. Grant suited up for all 17 games but only had 162 total snaps. In comparison, Jessie Bates and Justin Simmons played in over 1,000 snaps.

The lack of snaps highlights the lack of trust the coaching staff has in him. In those limited reps, the UCF product was terrible. According to PFF, Grant had a 37.7 overall grade (166th among 170 eligible safeties), a 49.2 run-defense grade (155th among 170 eligible safeties), and a 42.5 coverage grade (157th among 170 eligible safeties).

The Falcons will be revamping that safety room and Grant won't be a part of it in 2025.
