2. Alex Wood
Wood remains a free agent and wouldn't be an answer for Atlanta for quite some time. If you sign a free agent at this point in the season, they will need extended time to prepare for the year.
Therefore, adding a player with Wood's obvious question marks is far less enticing. Still, the Braves could use the extra depth, and perhaps Wood is willing to sign a minor league pact with the team with which he started his career.
Wood started his career in 2013 in Atlanta before leaving in the middle of the 2015 season to join the Los Angeles Dodgers. Since leaving the Braves, Wood has made stops with the Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, and Athletics. Last year's stint with the A's was a complete failure, and it is the reason why Wood remains a free agent.
The last time the veteran was a consistently reliable option was in the 2021 season. This speaks to how desperate Atlanta should be to find capable starting pitching. It isn't likely that Wood will prove to be an answer, but the veteran is at least worth a look.
3. Lance Lynn
Does Lance Lynn have any regrets about his offseason retirement decision? The veteran pitcher is the best option remaining on the market and would be an instant upgrade to Atlanta's rotation. Again, the tough sell is having extended spring and minor league starts to stretch out a starter before they can make an impact. Even if Lynn is regretting his decision to walk away from the game, it is doubtful this sounds enticing.
Still, it is an option the Braves should explore based on Lynn's consistent reliability. The veteran played with the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, and Dodgers. Last season, Lynn returned to St. Louis and was a solid piece of the Cardinals' rotation.
It is unlikely the veteran wants to return so soon after retirement. However, it is a potentially cheap answer the Braves must at least explore.
