3. Chadwick Tromp
Tromp would have to truly struggle for the rest of Spring Training for the team to consider moving on. Heading into the 2025 season, the expectation was that Tromp was the team's primary backup, with the team relying on Sean Murphy to rebound. However, the injury to Murphy has completely changed what the expectations are for the position heading into the season. Top prospect Drake Baldwin is going to be given every chance to win the starting job.
The only question mark if Baldwin takes advantage of this opportunity is: who will be the second option? Tromp is the heavy favorite but has struggled throughout the spring. While Tromp has struggled, veteran catcher Sandy Leon is making the most of limited ABs. The veteran catcher has already hit two homers and is making what was a clear decision a question mark. Tromp still has the inside track but must show improvements if he doesn't want to fall out of Atlanta's plans.
4. Buck Farmer
Atlanta's lack of offseason moves really opened up so many possible roster spots to be won. Farmer had a chance to force his way into the back of Atlanta's bullpen. Early returns have been extremely underwhelming and left the reliever as a probable roster cut. Farmer hasn't shown anything worth considering, giving the former Red a real chance at being a part of the Opening Day roster. There are far too many pitchers putting together better arguments, leaving Farmer as a likely cut in the next week.
Farmer spent time with the Reds and Tigers, having his best season last year in limited action. The concerns simply outweigh the upside for the veteran reliever. It is time for Atlanta to move on with clearly better options contending for the same spot.
