The Atlanta Falcons have no shortage of questions facing the franchise after an uneven offseason. The highlight was unquestionably making a head coaching change as well as putting Matt Ryan in charge of football operations. It is difficult to imagine the team isn't heading in the right direction based on these changes; however, we are far from having clear answers as to what this roster is capable of.
Answers that will have a bit more clarity once the final stretch of the offseason finally finishes and training camp begins in just over three weeks. With this in mind, let's look at the biggest questions facing the franchise when training camp begins and the offseason is finally put in the rearview.
1. Who Wins the Quarterback Battle?
This is by far the most obvious question and will have the most impact on the season ahead. Based on offseason programs, it is fair to say Tua Tagovailoa has the early edge and appears to be a likely starting option in Week 1. Still, camp reps and preseason can go a long way in changing this based not only on performance, but due to the incredible injury risk that both players present.
Michael Penix Jr. has been put in a bad position after a season-ending injury in 2025, when the season was supposed to serve as his crowning moment. Instead, a competition has gotten underway, with Tagovailoa appearing to hold the inside track.
2. Did the Falcons Actually Upgrade at Head Coach?
Raheem Morris has a career record of 34-62, while current Atlanta head coach Kevin Stefanski holds a record of 45-56. Stefanski holds a lone playoff win that is long behind the Cleveland Browns, while Morris never made an appearance in his time with the Falcons. While Stefanski has a slightly better resume, the former Cleveland head coach was let go for a reason: a losing record and an inability to make things work in an inconsistent offense.
While fans might be quick to point to the frustrations around the Browns as a franchise, it isn't as if the Falcons have been more stable. Did the Falcons finally make the right decision, or will this end in frustration? Training camp will start to provide the team with a needed answer to this question.
3. How Does the Team's Receiver Depth Chart Shake Out?
Drake London is cemented as the primary option, and tight ends Kyle Pitts and Austin Hooper should both be featured targets. However, looking strictly at the team's options at the receiver position, the uncertainty becomes clear. The Falcons badly need a surprise option to emerge, or at least to gain a sense of trust in veterans Jahan Dotson and Olamide Zaccheaus.
It is fair to expect two starting jobs to be up for grabs at the position, with only London locked into his role. This makes it clear that training camp should provide no shortage of entertainment at the position.
