The Atlanta Braves are coming out of the All-Star Break with a National League East lead and every reason to wonder what the second half holds. This is after an up-and-down first three months of the season saw two very different versions of the team. However, there is no denying that sitting atop the division isn't where the franchise was expected to be by pundits throughout the league. It was supposed to be the Philadelphia Phillies or the New York Mets ruling a division that has an undeniable level of spending.
Instead, the Phillies have been chasing the Braves all season while the Mets are fittingly in the division's basement. It is a hilarious development for Atlanta fans when you look at the payroll and realize that the Mets have the league's second most expensive roster, only behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. A highly paid roster that is getting ready for a fire sale ahead of this year's deadline.
A recent report has made it clear that New York is open for business. This doesn't include Juan Soto or the team's young building blocks, but there is no question that much of the team's core is on the market. For the Braves, it is hilarious to watch the Mets attempt to purchase a winning team and to fail yet again.
Braves Fans Can Only be Amused by New York Mets Continued 2026 Failures
Francisco Lindor and Bo Bichette are the headline names here that could be moved over the next few weeks. What makes this so interesting is the obvious need for Atlanta at the shortstop position. Whether or not the Mets would be willing to make a blockbuster deal within their own division remains a question mark.
No matter the answer, there is no denying that the Braves are enjoying watching New York's season. It is a fitting end to this version of the Mets. A team that believed it could simply buy its way into relevance without having its own developed pieces or the needed pitching depth.
As the Braves continue to attempt to hold off the Phillies at the top of the division, they can at least enjoy the fact that New York is competing for nothing of note in the season's final three months. There simply is nothing to play for when looking at a roster that is out of reach of the wildcard and has removed itself from the division conversation in the first two months of the season.
Whether or not Atlanta benefits directly from New York's upcoming sell, it is going to be fun to watch. A needed boost in the middle of what has been a bit of a frustrating last month for the Braves.
