The Atlanta Braves are going to be forced to scramble for answers after the news that Jurickson Profar has been suspended for the entire 2026 season.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the outfielder violated the league's banned substance list for the second straight season and will now miss 162 games because of it. This leaves a huge hole in Atlanta's lineup and gives the team an obvious trade target as spring training continues.

The Boston Red Sox have often been named as a potential trade option for teams in need of outfielders throughout the 2026 offseason. The Red Sox have a surplus at the position with Jarren Duran pointed to as a likely trade option. Atlanta could do no better in the remaining market than bringing in the Boston outfielder to help complete a questionable lineup.

Braves' 1st Call Should Be to Red Sox After Jurickson Profar Suspension

Losing Profar pushes Atlanta's lineup after already losing their starting shortstop into concerning territory. A move must be made in the next few days, and trading for Duran makes sense for both sides.

For Boston, it clears away a positional concern and leaves no future concerns about paying the outfielder. Atlanta's perspective is you're adding a career .267 hitter with above-average speed. That's without mentioning how it was only in 2024 when Duran led the Majors in doubles (48) and triples (14), leading to his first All-Star appearance.

Adding the current Red Sox would give the Braves a clear designated hitter and a potential left fielder who allows Ronald Acuna Jr. or Mike Yastrzemski to take turns at DH, lessening wear and tear in the field. It is also a move that hands a frustrated fan base a much-needed win after Profar's selfish actions.

Profar choosing to make the same mistake in back-to-back seasons should be an instant disqualifier when it comes to whether or not he will ever have another at-bat in an Atlanta uniform. The Braves need to cut bait and move in a different direction.

Atlanta must look at the next weeks with desperation, understanding it has not only lost Profar, but Hurston Waldrep and Spencer Schwellenbach are both currently gone after undergoing surgery. The Braves' rotation is short-handed, and this leaves more pressure on a lineup that now must replace Profar.

Trading for Duran should be affordable with only three years of team control remaining, and it being clear that the Red Sox are willing ot move on. It is time for the Braves to stop sitting in apathy as spring injuries mount and make a drastic move that has a chance to keep contention hopes alive.

After losing Profar, the Braves' next move must be doing what it takes to bring in Jarren Duran.
