The energy of Atlanta's 2025 season has shifted just as they've stepped into a controversy that isn't typical for the franchise. Jarred Kelenic failing to run out a deep fly ball caught the attention of Ronald Acuna Jr., who simply pointed out what many Braves fans were already thinking. If it were Acuna in this spot, the manager would likely bench the star outfielder. It didn't help matters that Brian Snitker's response was based on the fact that he denied having seen the play. While this is understandable for a manager juggling a lot of responsibilities, it is a poor answer.

As headline-grabbing as the story has been, Atlanta is in the middle of a four game winning streak and appears to be turning the season around. Still, there is reason to be concerned about Snitker and whether or not it impacts his ability to lead. The media's perception doesn't matter, with the only story being whether or not the clubhouse believes in their manager. However, seeing your star player openly challenge his decision-making isn't a great sign.

Ronald Acuna Jr. Openly Challenging Brian Snitker's Decision-Making is Bad Look for Braves

Yes, Acuna was justified in feeling this way, and there has been reason to question why Atlanta isn't more defensive of their star. However, Snitker's accomplishments and time with the franchise speak for themselves. Few have had the long-term impact and sustained winning of the Atlanta manager. It is also worth considering that the team won the 2021 World Series without their star outfielder.

Snitker isn't perfect and mismanaged this situation badly. It is concerning enough to consider whether this changes the clubhouse in any way. Are Acuna's sentiments felt among the clubhouse or simply the bitterness of one player? This is a question that can only be answered by the players themselves.

No matter the truth, it is undeniable Acuna shouldn't have posted it with the team's current struggles. If Acuna had been benched this season or even late in 2024, it would have been far more understandable. What isn't is choosing to take public shots at your team's leadership while you have been unable to contribute to winning for much of the last year. Yes, Acuna's feelings are valid, and Snitker mismanaged this situation. However, choosing to air his grievance so publicly not only puts Snitker in a bad spot but also Acuna's teammates.

It is a story to continue to keep a close eye on as Atlanta begins to turn the season around and the pending return of Acuna nears.
