While the Atlanta Braves won yet another series this weekend and continue to roll, there is no questioning that the team could be better. Injured outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. has missed time with a hamstring injury this season and remains unlikely to return to the lineup this week. MLB's Mark Bowman had the report that Atlanta fans will be none too happy about as their superstar continues to miss time due to yet another injury that is the next in a long line of recent setbacks for the 2023 MVP.
Even when Acuna has been in the lineup this season, the veteran hasn't lived up to expectations, offering a .252 average and a pair of home runs thus far in the 2026 season. This is obviously far from the star production expected of a player whose ceiling remains as one of the league's most dominating hitters.
Acuña will travel with the Braves, but the turf in Miami is one of the reasons he likely won’t be activated before the Braves return home on Friday.

For the Braves, it is frustrating to continue to wonder about the potential of an offense that is already raking without the benefit of its best hitter. While Drake Baldwin and Matt Olson are both dominating, the heights that Acuna can reach with his elite speed and power combination surpass the duo when talking about offensive potential. However, this is where fans will be quick to point out that both Olson and Baldwin are having All-Star seasons while Acuna is on the shelf yet again.
This is after missing extensive time in three of the last five seasons. It has become a concerning trend that unquestionably frustrates Braves fans and complicates the conversation when it comes to debating a potential extension.
Braves Fans Won't Love Latest Ronald Acuna Jr. Injury Update
It is understandable that the Braves are attempting to make sure Acuna is completely healthy and not risk a worse injury when the sense of urgency has never been lower. The Braves are well ahead of the rest of the pack in the National League East and have continued to roll over the last two weeks despite being without their superstar.
As frustrating as it is for the fanbase watching Acuna continue to miss time, it signals an organization understanding the situation and making the right decision. This is also helped by the fact that Mike Yastrzemski's bat has finally come to life, and the team is getting surprise offensive contributions from recent call-up Jose Azocar.
Acuna is under far less pressure to return as long as this continues, and an extra week of rest won't be the worst thing in four very winnable games. Still, this isn't the update fans were hoping for and points to a concerning trend with a superstar who increasingly has struggled to stay on the field.
