The Atlanta Braves' outfield appears locked into place heading into the 2026 offseason with Jurickson Profar, Michael Harris, and Ronald Acuña Jr. as the projected starters. However, the third depth spot remained a bit of a question mark, one that now has an answer with Atlanta agreeing to terms with Eli White. While the outfielder was still under team control, he was arbitration-eligible. This did put the veteran's future into question after what was a breakout season.

After spending the bulk of his career in the minor leagues, White won a starting role for a large portion of last season. Poor play from Harris and outfield injuries opened the door for White to play a far larger role than expected. While this translated into only a .234 average for the 2025 season, there is immense value in having White's speed and defense ready to step in off the bench.

Agreeing to terms so early in the offseason suggests that the Braves see plenty of value in the stability that White brings. With this in mind, it seems fair to expect the veteran to be the fourth outfielder heading into next season. This is at least one less question for Atlanta to answer in what is shaping up to be an incredibly busy offseason.

Braves Bring Back OF Eli White, Agreeing to Terms Early in Offseason

It makes sense to save money at this spot based on the investment in the current outfield, as well as the number of positions you still must find answers for. The rotation, bullpen, and shortstop are all still in need of top-dollar additions. This is to say nothing of the lack of answers at DH with Marcell Ozuna hitting free agency and the two sides not striking any deal as of yet.

The Braves already are projected to have a payroll well over $200 million, making it obvious why the franchise is content with counting on White to serve as the backup outfielder. Saving money at every possible landing spot is a wise decision if Atlanta is serious about making a push to return to postseason contention.

Atlanta's front office has to realize it isn't as simple as retooling or waiting for the roster to get healthy. There is no denying the need to spend top dollar to make the needed postseason push. With this in mind, signing White so early and avoiding any distractions sets a clear path to allow the Braves to focus on other positions of higher need.

For White, it is a great chance to continue writing an impressive story for a player who appeared to be stuck in a minor league role. Instead, the outfielder is poised to hold onto the 4th outfielder role in Atlanta.
