The Atlanta Braves have had a handful of surprise contributors in the 2026 season, as well as veterans defying expectations. Fitting both of these descriptions is left-handed reliever Dylan Lee, who has performed beyond even reasonable fan expectations. The setup man has been relegated to an earlier inning role with the addition of Robert Suarez and the return of Raisel Iglesias. It seems that this reset or demotion was exactly what was needed to get the absolute most out of Lee.

When the reliever takes the mound, there is an expectation and level of faith from Braves fans that speaks to how automatic the reliever has been. The numbers illustrate this with an ERA of 0.87 and 25 strikeouts in 20.2 innings of work, showing just how nasty Lee has been. Even more amazing has been the production offered since the start of May.

Not only has Lee not given up a run, but there has only been one hit surrendered in 6.0 innings of work. The last time a run was given up, you have to go all the way back to April 25th against the Philadelphia Phillies, when Lee gave up a lone run while still managing to strike out two Philly hitters.

Braves Clearly Have Overlooked Weapon in Left-Handed Reliever Dylan Lee

What makes the performance of the southpaw so overlooked is the fact that the level of production has been so consistent; the expectation of being automatic allows some to overlook early-season dominance. There is also the fact that the presence of Suarez left the Braves with Lee in an earlier inning role, obviously catching less attention in box scores or from league pundits.

However, Braves fans know exactly what Lee has meant to the franchise and how important he has been to a team that has already won 30 games and is in complete control of the National League East. While there are a myriad of factors at play in Atlanta's hot start, Lee's contributions cannot be underrated or overlooked.

Lee is doing this while being a clear bargain, only making $2.2 million. The case for a raise is being made with the reliever remaining under team control each of the next two seasons. While performing at this high a level might not be maintainable considering the eye-popping numbers, there is every reason to believe Lee's strong season will continue and his value will extend into next season.

The reliever has become an undeniable weapon, that the franchise can lean on in any situation and expect the same level of performance. No question, Lee deserves more attention for what he has accomplished this season.
