The Atlanta Braves used the 22nd overall pick in this year's draft to bring in shortstop Tate Southisene. It is a solid selection at a position of need, even if the young prospect is likely still years away from making an impact.

Selecting the high school prospect doesn't come as a surprise when you read the infielder's scouting reports and consider the impact he could have on Atlanta's future middle infield. There is zero level of stability when it comes to the middle of the Braves' infield, and this includes second baseman Ozzie Albies, who is enduring the worst season of his career.

While Southisene isn't going to be an instant answer, the young prospect gives the franchise hope of future stability. The prospect didn't hesitate to react to the news of joining one of the league's most consistent franchises. The shortstop played his high school ball in Nevada and will be a name Atlanta fans keep a close eye on throughout the next few seasons. With this in mind, the infielder's reaction makes the move all the more exciting.

Tate Southisene Reacts to Braves' Selection

Nick Allen is Atlanta's current starting shortstop and is making an interesting argument to be the answer moving forward. While the offensive upside is extremely limited, the infielder is an incredible defender. Ranking second at the position in runs saved, the shortstop has made a case to start for the Braves beyond this season. It is hard to sacrifice the offense, but Allen's defensive highlight reel speaks for itself.

All of this adds up to a continued lack of direction at the position ever since the team lost Dansby Swanson to the Chicago Cubs in free agency. Overpaying the veteran wasn't the right decision, but that doesn't help replace the void left since his departure.

Perhaps Southisene will finally be the future answer the team has been searching for. While he remains years away, it is fun to imagine the prospect's fit within the organization. No question, it was the perfect way to kick off the draft, and judging from Southisene's reaction, the prospect agrees.
