The Atlanta Falcons had the chance to play the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs at various points this season. The Eagles and the Chiefs will play against each other in Super Bowl 59 on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Falcons defeated the Eagles in Week 2 on the road, 22-21, but lost the next week at home to the Chiefs, 22-17. Atlanta went toe-to-toe with the two-time defending champs, but could not come away with the win.

Earlier this week at Super Bowl Opening Night, Chiefs GM Brett Veach reflected on that win for his team, but also gave some credit to the Falcons.

"(Early-season wins) are super important, not just to get them early in the season, but to go into a hostile environment, Veach said (h/t  D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution). That’s a tough place to play.

That came down literally to the fourth-down play. Great play by Nick Bolton. Those guys had us on the ropes."

After coming up in the clutch a couple of weeks prior against the Eagles, the Falcons’ offense could not recapture that same magic against the Chiefs. Atlanta had a chance on its final offensive possession as they took advantage of a few costly penalties by the Chiefs’ defense.

However, on third-and-1 at the Chiefs’ 13-yard line, Kansas City linebacker Drue Tranquill got a stop on Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier for no gain.

Then on fourth down, the Falcons tried Bijan Robinson, but the Chiefs' defensive line got a major push in the trenches, allowing linebacker Nick Bolton to stop Robinson in the backfield.

That primetime loss to the Chiefs didn't doom the Falcons at the time. They ripped off three straight divisional wins over the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Carolina Panthers.

However, if the Falcons were able to pull off another comeback win, this time against the Chiefs, that could've changed the trajectory of the regular season. The great teams know how to win the close games and the Falcons aren't at that tier yet.
