The Atlanta Dream are getting to the point of the season where it's understandable why they're staring at the standings, because it's a tight race between several teams. From the No. 4 seed to the No. 8 seed, only half a game or a game truly separates them from making a jump or a dip. For the Dream, that meansthey need to keep winningso they can stay as high as they can and potentially get home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
The Dream deserves to be talked about as one of thetop teams in the league,and they've shown throughout the season that they can hang with anybody that crosses their path. Unfortunately for them, and any other team in the playoff race, no matchup will be a cakewalk this season.
No matter where the Dream decide to land in the standings at the end of the season, they'll be going up against a team that could possibly go all the way and win the championship.
The WNBA's top four are all contenders
The Minnesota Lynx, Golden State Valkyries, Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces are currently the top four teams in the standings. The Dream were able to beat them in the opener but lost to them about two weeks later. Since then, the Lynx have proved to be the best team in the league and are clicking on all cylinders.
As for the Valkyries, the Dream lost all three matchups against them this season, as their defense proved to be one of the reasons they couldn't get over the hump. They also have a roster full of talented wings and guards, and any player could go off on any given night, which makes them a scary bunch.
The Dream have split the season series with the Fever and recently beat the Aces in their latest matchup, something they hadn't done since 2024. Everyone knows the Fever have the best offense in the league, and as long as A'ja Wilson is on the floor, the Aces will always be a team that's hard to beat in a playoff series. Those are the four teams the Dream would have to deal with if they don't get home-court advantage, but the other teams below would be a handful as well.
There's compeition everywhere surrounding the Dream
The teams below the Dream in the standings are the Washington Mystics, New York Liberty and Dallas Wings. The Mystics are a young, hungry team that has seemed to give the Dream problems this season. Their inexperience could show up in the playoffs, but they should be considered a dark horse with how they've been playing as of late.
No matter where the Liberty are in the standings, their championship pedigree is something that will always carry them through the postseason. The Dream have two matchups remaining with them that come at the end of the season that could have major standings implications, and it could be considered a mini playoff series in itself.
The Wings are the one team many may want to play. With Azzi Fudd out for the rest of the season, they'll have a tall hill to climb, but they still have enough to stay competitive.
With the list of these opponents, none of these teams will be an easy out, and the Dream will be ready for anything that comes their way.
