It is easy to feel for former Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier, as the veteran appeared poised to finally land a starting role this offseason. The Falcons turned the page, understanding that re-signing the rusher wasn't an option if they hoped to extend Bijan Robinson, with paying two pieces at the position under the cap simply not being realistic. This led to Allgeier hitting free agency and signing with the Arizona Cardinals for two years and $12.2 million with $8 million in guarantees. This seemingly locked the former Falcon into a starting role and handed a much-deserved chance.

One that lasted only days before the Cardinals opted to utilize the team's third overall pick to select running back Jeremiyah Love. All of a sudden, Allgeier was in the same position as Atlanta, only with a lesser quarterback situation and a far less proven offensive line. It is easy to argue that the punishing playmaker downgraded his situation and has been relegated yet again.

Allgeier is deserving of an opportunity as a star back with his impact in his rookie season, continuing to go underrated. As Atlanta's starring back, the rusher offered 1,035 rushing yards on 4.9 yards per carry in Arthur Smith's extremely limited offense. This is starter-level production accomplished in an offense that was clearly set up for failure, and yet Allgeier found a way to produce.

It has to be frustrating for Allgeier with the playmaker wondering what exactly he has to do to earn an opportunity. The running back was the ultimate teammate after putting together a 1,000 yard rookie season and watching the Falcons draft Bijan Robinson. Not a word or complaint was uttered, with Allgeier spending the last three years playing a secondary role and doing so at a high level, serving as a short-yardage weapon.

Still, this patience isn't being rewarded, and it is easy to feel the frustration of a player deserving of a chance at a starring role. Leaving Atlanta was supposed to provide this chance, and instead appears to have set the stage for a worse offensive situation.

The only hope for the former Falcon is that a potential trade will open up ahead of this year's deadline, with an underperforming player or injury opening up a path to playing a starting role for a contender. This is where Allgeier's career has landed after a free agency situation that clearly has already become a regret.
