Former Atlanta Braves starter Bryse Wilson has hit another career roadblock after being designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox. Wilson spent the 2018-2020 seasons with the Braves before being traded in the middle of 2021. The former Atlanta starter has spent time with the Pirates, Brewers, and White Sox since leaving the franchise. Wilson has had only one truly impressive season, coming in 2023 with the Brewers. Everything else has been incredibly inconsistent leading up to the veteran's demotion.

Wilson has been used both as a starter and reliever over the last three seasons, depending on his perceived fit. The latest stop has seen Wilson suffer the worst season of his career since first establishing himself in the big leagues. The veteran's ERA is 6.95, having allowed 35 earned runs this season. Even with the league's desperation for pitching, it is going to be difficult to find the former Braves starter a new landing spot that offers a chance at the next level.

Former Braves Pitcher Bryse Wilson Facing Expected Setback

However, the pitcher could be an interesting reclamation project for the Braves as a possible long relief option. After the team's surprising demotion of Scott Blewett, they have yet to fill the role with an established option. Even with Wilson's struggles, there is reason to believe his numbers could improve with a return to Atlanta.

It isn't a stretch to believe the struggling pitcher has a chance to improve an underwhelming Atlanta pen. Anyone capable of eating innings at a close-to-capable level could be viewed as an improvement. While this hasn't been the veteran's 2025 season, he has had success in his recent career and is far from being out of gas, but likely simply needs a change of scenery.

Whether in Atlanta or another surprise landing spot, the veteran is going to get a chance to continue his career. Even the ugly production the pitcher has offered in the 2025 season isn't enough to scare teams off based on what Wilson put together in 2023 and the consistent pressing need to find arms capable of eating innings.
