The Atlanta Falcons' season has been over for much of the second half of the season after yet another collapse after a promising start. In back-to-back years, the Falcons have started with a winning record only for the franchise to fold when the games begin to matter most. This has left no question that it is time to turn the page from head coach Raheem Morris. The first move of Atlanta's offseason should be owner Arthur Blank turning the page from a coach who has consistently displayed poor clock management and an inability to adjust.
When the game is on the line, there is no debate which side has the advantage; the Falcons are going to be consistently outcoached. This is a brutal league, and two years of losing is more than enough reason for Atlanta to turn the page. Blank should've learned his lesson already after sticking with former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith for an additional season to cement three years of losing.
This year's failure has been highlighted by the fact that only nine wins were required to host a first-round playoff game. Carolina and Tampa Bay will play the final week of the season for the division, with the winner taking the division crown, opening up the possibility that a losing record could win the division with the Panthers at 8-8 and the Bucs at 7-9. The standard has never been lower, and Morris still wasn't anywhere close to reaching it.
Falcons Must Part Ways with Failing Head Coach after Frustrating 2025 Season
Atlanta has every reason for urgency, as they have a talented young defense, a solid offensive line, Bijan Robinson, and Drake London all under contract for the 2026 season. Still, the team hasn't had a winning season since 2017. This was a year after Atlanta's infamous Super Bowl loss and the end of the Matt Ryan and Julio Jones era.
In the NFL, it has been a lifetime since the Falcons were a viable threat in the playoffs, let alone had a winning record. This makes it clear why you cannot afford to simply sit back and hope Morris figures it out after two seasons of losing. It is time to fire the failing head coach and bring in a fresh perspective that gives you a chance to change eight years of losing.
This has spanned the head coaching tenures of Dan Quinn, Arthur Smith, and Raheem Morris. It is time to turn the page and hope you can find an answer that can help breathe life back into an inconsistent offense. It will be close to impossible for the Falcons not to upgrade at the position after Morris had a winning percentage of .419 with the Falcons. The fan base deserves better, and Atlanta's ownership must make the move quickly, giving itself a chance to begin a search for a better answer.
