The Atlanta Falcons are heading into the 2025 season with a question mark at the receiver position. Darnell Mooney is dealing with an injury, and it isn't clear when he might be able to return to the roster. Atlanta lacks depth at the position, with Drake London and Mooney expected to do the heavy lifting. If teams are able to simply shift complete focus on London early in the year, it doesn't bode well for the Falcons' offense.
Looking around at the potential trade market, one name jumps out as an obvious fit. Chiefs legend and current Dolphin Tyreek Hill has had a rough couple of years in Miami. Last season ended with the star quitting on the team, walking away, and refusing to finish out the game. It was giving shades of Antonio Brown in all of the worst ways. However, the receiver walked back the frustration and returned to the lineup.
Falcons Should Attempt to Land Troubled Receiver Tyreek Hill
Still, it was notable that Hill wasn't named a captain for the Dolphins, who still have some obvious issues with the star. The Falcons should attempt to present a solution offering a day two pick in exchange for the star receiver. You're already without your first-round pick next season with James Pearce Jr.'s arrival coming at a cost. This shows a sense of urgency to make the playoffs and turn the corner from the past few seasons.
The Falcons haven't been in the postseason since Matt Ryan and Julio Jones were leading the way all the way back in 2017. If ever a franchise had a reason for a high sense of urgency, it is Atlanta. Trading for Hill sends this message and is the perfect fit for a gunslinger in Penix. It allows you to consistently move your trio of starters around and gives an elite backup in Ray-Ray McCloud.
For Hill, you can turn the page on a bad situation in Miami and have a chance for a huge season with a quarterback you know is going to force the football down the field. Looking at the depth of target from Penix's small three-game sample size, no quarterback was more consistently pushing the ball past the sticks.
This fits perfectly into Hill's game and would elevate the receiver back to the star he was two seasons ago. For the Falcons, it is continuing to push your chips to the center of the table and giving the offense a chance to be among the league's best units. Bijan Robinson, London, Kyle Pitts, Hill, and Mooney is as talented a skill group as you will find in the league. Driving home why the Falcons must reach out about the receiver.
With that said, it seems unlikely a coaching staff fighting for their jobs is going to be okay moving on from Hill. The front office is tied to the current staff and is unlikely to trade a player who is viewed as pivotal to the 2025 season. Trading Hill remains a long shot, but far too obvious a fit to ignore.
